Kindergarten Course Information

Phonics & Beginner Reading Course

Learn the 44 sounds of English in a comprehensive Phonics Course which teaches your child to pronounce clearly and properly; decode unfamiliar words; and read with both fluency and correct intonation and stress.

The course is split into Phonics (Basic) and Phonics (Advanced).

In Phonics (Basic) the children will learn the phonemic sounds related to the 26 letters of the alphabet. They will be introduced to the concept of syllabification. They will also learn how to read independently with the aid of our key words reading series.

In Phonics (Advanced) the children will learn about long vowels, digraphs, consonant clusters, diphthongs and triphthongs. They will learn about intonation and word stress and continue their journey of learning to decode words by identifying the correct number of syllables in words as well as cutting words into manageable ‘chunks’ for pronunciation. Children will begin forming sentences verbally and then practice writing them in legible and well-spaced hand-writing. Children will continue developing their reading fluency with the key word reading series.

Early Writer Course

After Phonics & Beginner Reading, your child can progress onto our early writing course which teaches the fundamentals of sentence building and simple paragraph structuring. Your child will be exposed to comprehension texts on the world around them and taught how to answer comprehension questions in complete sentences. This is an important step to enable your child to use his/her phonetical knowledge to decode words and build up fluency and speed as well as train their critical thinking skills.
